Fell down the stairs 10 days ago. X-rays showed nothing broken or out of place but I have some nasty bruising on my back and buttocks (particularly right side). Hip muscle goes into spasm easily, especially while trying to sleep. Advil doesn't help much. I have had 3 sessions of physical therapy and chiropractic adjustments. Anyone have any similar experiences or offer any hints on how to cope until pain subsides? Any idea how long muscle spasms will continue?

Regular, gentle stretching of the hip and buttock muscles (your physical therapist should have shown you these). Ice or heat (both help decrease muscular spams, but ice will also decrease the inflammation and swelling, whereas heat may increase it). Drink a lot of water and make sure you are getting enough electrolytes and potassium (bananas!). The spams are your body's reaction to the injury. The intensity and frequency should decrease with time.
