Hello! I have my degree in Early Childhood Education: however, I've only worked with 2nd graders in private schools (mostly after school care. I will try and help. I have found that in anything you do with the children - whether it be a group or individual, positive reinforcement for seemingly minor deeds go along way if given at the time they did something you liked, or that showed promise for them and their friends. It's a general answer, which I'm sure your well aware of. I hope God gives you the strength and timeliness to practice this strategy. My wife finds games and activities for your age children and prechoolers throuth the 'good ole' internet. They love to learn dances; they love board games; they love books that ecplain their world; and also look in the inernet or library for books on teacher made materials and games...their is a wealth of great ideas out their!

2ND graders what a great age. are you the teacher or someone helping out. is there room to run like outside or a gym. you could start off with duck duck goose, team sports can be a big hit [ you make the teams not the kids ] dodge ball., wiffle ball. pass the secret this a quite one whisper something in a child's ear and then they whisper in the child next to them and on down the line. you will be amazed when the last child says out loud what he heard nothing like what you said. you could have teams pass a hard boiled egg on a spoon see what team is the fastest or run one at a time with spoonfuls of water see what teams bucket got the most water. Simon says is always a good game ask the kids for their ideas they will love to share.GOOD LUCK HAVE A GREAT TIME.

My daughter was in 2nd grade last year, the entire class loved bingo with pictures with the theme of whatever holiday it was, prizes being same themed pencils and other school type supplies tha tthey could use in class with the same holiday theme.
So for Halloween each square had a picture of a pumpkin, witch, bat etc etc... they had about 20 to pick from or more and then would cut out their faves and glue them onto a blank bingo board, then instead of bingo it was WITCH or Scare or something simliar you could go with. It was fun I even played!

Another time they played pin the wing on the bat, blind folded make a jack-o-lantern face having each face part, nose, eyes and mouth seperate and having to pin/tape it to look like a jack-o-lantern as best as you can... they were funny games and the kids all had a great time!

How about a tapping and clapping game at their desk. And they all have to think of something in that category. You set the category.

For example: school supplies

categories
names of
school supplies
such as
*pencils
*pens
*paper

you get the idea
right?
well, email me.

I hope that you aren't the teacher with spelling like that!
You could play the classics like tag. hide n seek, duck duck goose.
Try some board games, flash cards, bingo.
Look up games on www.nickjr.com try looking under the party section.
