We bought a used 2000 Dodge Durango some time back and the speaker in the right rear passenger door sounds like it is loose in its mounting - bass sounds make it rattle. Is there a simple (ie even I could do it) way to remove the door panel and re-mount the speaker or should I just throw in the towel and pay someone to do it?

Thanks!

you can do it its an easy job to do,,its rattling because it is busted,,and the bass from the music will make it rattle more,,just remove the door panel,,and take it out,,you can probably get a good replacement one from any radio shack store,,i bought some from there a while back for my stepsons van,,and they worked really good,i think they cost 29 dollars a pair ,and that was a good price,,and it only took a few minutes to put them in,,take one of the old ones with you so they can match them up,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

I doubt it's the speaker that's rattling, there usually screwed into the metal of the door. It's more likely that it's the locking arm rattling due to bass moving it.

Remove the door panel, by taking off all abvious screw, then pull on it. It's held on with clips. Line the inside of the door with foam padding, this will stop stuff rattling in there. You can also see if the speaker is loose at the same time.

they don't just become loose that sound you hear....the rattle....means the speaker is blown and needs to be replaced...not remounted. the speaker grill will usually pull off so you can get to it. it's fairly easy to replace yourself, if you have a soldering gun. but you are going to need to buy a new speaker for it.
