'Diamonds are Forever' was an advertising slogan by the De Beers Diamond Company in the 1950's. It was picked up by Ian Fleming who wrote a James Bond book with the slogan as the title. It was later made into a film (very inaccurately when compared with the book but that's Hollywood for you).
The slogan was devised to show the indestructibility of diamonds as the world's hardest substance coupled with the idea that giving someone a diamond ring would signify everlasting love.
The slogan, however, didn't allow for someone losing their diamond.

It's not lost, she just can't find it, at least it's forever so it won't break down in the environment. I know someone who lost her engagement ring as a young woman, years later, whilst planting in her garden, she pulled up an old plant and there it was tangled in the roots. She was 60 years old, it had been missing for over 30 years. So never say never, it might be forever!

Do I know you? I didn't tell you I lost my diamond, how did you know? Honestly, I lost a diamond in my channel set wedding ring yesterday and I can't believe it? I guess that diamond wasn't as good a friend as I thought!!

Diamonds are actually a girl's best friend!
Who said they are forever (except James Bond!)? (actually, diamonds are, I believe, the hardest natural substance, so they are hard to destroy - unless cut carefully by an expert.)

Since she lost it then it's her fault. The term means that they last forever if they are looked after. You can't go around throwing them away or jumping up and down on them lol. If she is upset tell her i will buy her a new one.

This does not relate to owning the diamonds but to the degree of hardness of them, they are very durable and built to last.
