The only time that you "might" get a bonus in the Marine Corps is when you come up for re-enlistment, and "only" if your MOS is critically short of personnel. So if you are looking for bonuses from the Marine Corps, you probably won't get one.
No your recruiter was not lying.
Prior service Marine.

a recruiter gets "extras" for filling their quotas so I don't know why he would lie as an incentive to get you to join... with all branches it always varies. The bonuses are determined by what positions they need filled the most. Say if you went in as a translator you might get a big bonus but as infantry you might not.. that is just an example. For awhile the Navy gave huge bonuses to ET's then there was too many so no bonuses!
Don't forget to check out the other branches too and if you don't join any until you have talked to other besides recruiters to see what you are in for. The recruiters have a job to do, they are salesmen.. don't let that deter you from joining just make sure you find the perfect fit for you. Good luck!

No its the truth. The largest bonus is 9,000 I beleive. Where is in the Army, the average signing bonus for the RESERVES is 7,000. You don't join the Marines for the bonuses, I have never heard of anybody getting one. Its probably for the band.

Just remember one thing: Absolutly nothing your recruiter tells you or promises you is guaranteed. A recruiter's job is to figure out what it is going to take to get you to sign up, and then do that. I am not saying they lie, just saying the may be telling half truths or giving you speculation. I would suggest that you talk to an active duty service member and ask them. They know because they live it.

The army has alot more enlistment incentives than that of The Corps. But remember: join the army and you will learn how to die for your country, join the Marines and you will learn how to kill for your country....but alas....you don't learn much else.

Possibly. The U.S. military has a manpower shortage right now and is offering large bonuses to people to signup.
I'd think carefully before signing up without triple-checking what benefits you may be entitled to.

yep he is lieing.
Would consider going to a different recruiter if not even a different location.
Personally, when I was young enough, I only considered joining per the $$ bonus's.
Except for all out war, I wouldnt have joined without it.
