In reality, glucoma is a broad term for damage to the optic nerve which is the bundle of nerve fibers. It is usually occurred in the presence of high intraocular pressure, but also could be occurred with normal or below-normal eye pressure, so your high pressure doesn't mean you will have it. Risk groups are African-Americans, people over 60 years old, people whose family members got glaucoma (hereditary disease), Asian- Americans, and users of steroids

Even half of affected may not know if they have it, because symptoms may be hidden, and occur when disease has already caused considerable damage.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for glaucoma. It's a chronic disease that must be treated for life, but there are a lot of researches that makes us hopeful of a cure may be realized soon! But, the patient can live a fairly normal life, as the sight slips away.

You can go blind from Glaucoma.... I assume that is the word you mean to use. Glucoma would indicate blood sugar (Gluco=sugar and oma=growth)

Glaucoma is caused by a build-up of the fluid in the eye. It can cause a detatched retina and, untreated, it can cause blindness.

There are several drugs for treating Glaucoma, several are topical and are used once or twice a day. In extreme cases, the condition can be corrected by surgery... it's about 2 hours long and it's a real bummer... worse than cataract surgery on many level.

If you have Glaucoma, then get it seen and get it treated because it won't get better on it's own and you CAN and probably WILL go blind from it.

Glaucoma is a disease caused by increased intraocular pressure (IOP) resulting either from a malformation or malfunction of the eye’s drainage structures. Left untreated, an elevated IOP causes irreversible damage the optic nerve and retinal fibers resulting in a progressive, permanent loss of vision. However, early detection and treatment can slow, or even halt the progression of the disease.

I`ve been under treatment since 1987. I take two drops in the morning and three at nite. I`ve lost about 50% of my vision in the left eye and 65% in the right. I`ve been lasered in both eyes 4 times with no results. I had the right eye operated on twice and the left eye once. The shots in the eye after the operation is the worse, over 120 shots in the both eyes to stop the scaringMy. Dad was blind in one eye with only tunnel vision in the other.

Glaucoma leads to blindness by damaging the optic nerve. Elevated pressure in the eye is a risk factor, but even people with normal pressure can lose vision to glaucoma.

I have glaucoma. It is excessive buildup of fluid which causes pressure in the eye, which, if left untreated, will cause blindness.
I see an ophthamologist every 4 months, and I put drops in my eyes 4 times a day.
