Read 'African Traditional Religion: A defination' by Idowu A. or 'Olodumare : God among the Yoruba' and maybe your perspective will change. It's not fear it's respect.

What religion are you taking about? There are many different African Religions. I practice Haitian Vodou which many lwa (spirits) originated from Africa. We don't dread our ancestors at all. We honor them everyday. Without our ancestors we would not be here.

I have seen a documentary that spoke of an African woman believing her deceased family member was unhappy with what she was doing. And the deceased family member made it hard for her everyday until she spoke with someone that knew how to send the spirit away. She paid for the cleansing and the spirit departed.

yes, the answer is hard-to-find!

you would know the answer if you ever had seen one of these spirits (or should i say smelled one?).

they stink really bad! this has nothing to do with their religion, or their skin color (although it may have something to do with the hair).
