I wish I knew but the funny thing is you can make a dog or cat yawn by yawning in front of them! You can make them lick their lips too, by doing it. I used to make my cat do that all the time and it made him so mad, he would fluff up his tail and walk away in disgust while I giggled!

It's one of those traits left over from when we were effectively living in packs. It was more efficent/effective that people slept at the same time so yawning became a trigger to others - to effectively signal that it was time for the "pack" to sleep

Yawning is a strange function that us humans do, and i find it even stranger that we do it when other people do it. I heard that it is to do with the air that is exchanged when people yawn.It can be soo annoying sometimes, when your in the middle of listening or something like that an you yawn.people think that you are bored!!lol

It is a psychological thing. We yawn due to lack of oxygen.
