See thumb sucking is related to many causes
1) habitual
2)Psychological
3)for pleasure
Your step1 should be is first to find out if she has any problems regarding any type of fears like that of a teacher or with siblings or with any one
try to find out r u as a parent giving time to ur child, playing and sharing with her
Step 2,if there is no psychological problem try to tell her about the bad effect of the habit
if it is not successful try step 3 don't force her; straight away go to the dentist it will be good if he/she is a orthodontist, every thing will be fine
dont worry dentist will take care of the problem,

Thumb sucking is not a disease. It is a sign of feeling unattended. If you will try to pull out or paste it with some bitter substance it will not solve the problem. So best is to ignor. Just try to divert the attention of the child without making him conscious that it is to check his action. Every child sucks thumb. Even Lord Krishna’s Shri Rama's portraits depict this soothing habit of kids. So do not get panicky. Wait for another one year.

My little sister was a thumb ******, there is this nail polish you can buy that is made specially for thumb sucking, and it has a sour/bad taste that you wouldnt want to put in your mouth and it is safe for all ages... You best bet would be to call around to department stores or baby/toddler stores in your area to see if they carry the product. Its worth a try my sister stopped.
