Whenever i download any .avi file and try playing it on either real one or windows media player, it says it requires codec bt den fails to download it. I got DivX installed as well, but it just plays the audio, video doesn't appear. And not all .avi files can be broken, atleast some should play... but none does !!!
Help!!!
PS; i usually download .avi using limewire or Ares.

This .avi file might be in XvID format,
they look identical but are different.

You can download it from : http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

I would recommend downloading VLC (Video LAN Player), it is an open source player and can play any video files, even the broken files that no other player can play.

Many of the codecs in this player were re-written to improve the performance.

These avi files ( download form file sharing websites) need unique codecs to play them. You need to buy codecs from their websites ( non secure sites ) as they upload avi files in P2P file sharing sites.
My advice is to delete them.
