One guy said all male college aged should go!! And another said it would be bad to send prisoners!! Sending prisoners is a good idea. I'm not sure what I would do, but if I was in jail..then hell yeah I would go. Prisoners lives may not be "worthless" but why not send them instead of a guy who is doing something(ex: in college, vocational school etc..) to try and better things for himself! come on people!!

Men in prison should not be put into uniform. For some reason honor, integrity, and selfless service and DISCIPLINE which are core principles in the military seem to be things most prisoners sorely lack. It is comforting to think of prisoners as being a quick surplus of troops in the event they were needed but I just don't think that very many of them are smart enough, medically qualified, or in the proper age bracket to even be useful. My brother is in prison, never graduated high school, and is so mentally ill that without thousands of dollars in medication every month he's useless.
I am against the draft just because it takes too long to train troops nowadays. It used to work for large land wars that just needed troops to line up and point guns at each other. Nowadays everything is hi-tech and needs smarter people. If we get into a large land war again I think we need it.

The military doesn't want the draft.

Having a draft changes a lot of ways the military does things. The big change is in maintaining discipline. Troops who volunteered are going to be more concerned about their record, advancement, and the type of discharge they get. Draftees don't care about any of those things. Having a smaller number of people who want to be there is a lot better than having a large number of people who don't.

Success in the military is about teamwork and trust. The absolute last people that should be brought into the service are criminals.

I don't think the draft will ever be reinstated in the US.

NO!!! The draft is not supported by the Military or Department of Defense. People who want to dodge the
draft should be rounded up and put in prison. People who are in prison on non-violent convictions should be given a choice of remaining in prison or military service in order to clear their criminal records, this would e done in case the USA is ever attacked again on it's own turf like a 9/11.

In the Nam days there were several who fled the draft, even some famous politicians. However, most of us that were drafted did not flee. We served. The draft is not popular, but it will return in a non voting year if the need is there. The need is there now. Our troop strength is pitiful and yet we are on this manifest destiny dream and using the national guard as the de facto draft. As our imperialistic leaders run out of soldiers, they will have no choice. Executive power, you know how that is! I think being a soldier is fine if only the politicians stayed out of the war and let Generals run it. Politicians screw the military.

It could if we are attacked again or with a nuclear device. We may need it but we many get enough volunteers to avoid it. I would go but I already served in the 70's so I am past the age limit. (age dicriminastion?) And sending prisoners would be a bad idea. Would you go is the question or would you chicken out and go to Canada?

When the war is so unpopular with the people of a country, that they can't even find enough volunteers to fight it, then the message is pretty clear. It's not a war that should be fought, and it's going to cost an election.

If they reinstate the draft the government will fall almost immediately.

Unless some WW Two scale of world war happens, I would doubt it. The bad thing about large scale wars these days is the large scale destruction of a likely nuclear war between two or more large nation-states.

Hopefully. Actually that is what America needs, a required time that kids should go into the Military just like other countries have. It builds confidence and life skills and maybe we could cut the numbers of slackers and fattys in America.

Men in prison should be the first to go?

That's a rather discriminating statement to make, implying that their lives are worth less/they should be the cannon fodder...
