There are recent examples in here, from the most outspoken proclaimed-Christians, saying "God bless you," when they are oh-so-irritated. Here is another example of what I interpreted as a passive-aggressive "F-you": "Oh my! Did I open a big can of worms or what? There is so much hate in our world. So sorry most of you live in it. Being a Christian, it is something I think of when one dies. Sorry to cause such conviction in many of your hearts. I do feel sorrow for his family."

It seems that the tone and context often contradict the words. Would Christians get more respect if they just said what they meant?

Yes. At least I know that I have. It is called practicing the fruits of the spirit, or taming your tongue.
We do that because we are attempting to do what God would have us do, and not bring shame to HIS name.

Jesus looks at the heart of a person, and sees past the words.

No I wouldn't use God's name to express any type of anger. If I want to be angry it wouldn't be because of God.

I can only speak for myself. Sometimes what a person says IS what they mean.

Hehe, that's funny you should say that... I always took "bless your heart" to mean "you're so stupid" =) Say what you want, it still comes across condescending.
