There are different types of girls.. Is she a girly girl with dolls and wears pink or is she a tomboy with jeans, cargo pockets and plays basketball? Girls 8 years old are active. They are in 2 grade and hands on is important. It is a perfect age for toys. My daughter is a girly girl and loves pink. She has all the collection of Bratz. Every single doll and movie. She loves listening to music in her room (Disney Princesses Cd's) She changes the dolls clothes over and over. She loves making bracelets for her little friends in school. (You can get her a bead set at Toys' R US). She plays video games but not too often. She does Karaoke in her room and makes dances to go with the music. She is lots of fun and very creative. Try to buy toys or thing that can help her creativity. Good Luck and make sure you don't skimp her in the present her mom is watching and you want to leave a good impression. After all she has to trust you with her child..

How to Select a Gift for an 8-Year-Old Girl
Enjoy yourself as you search out the perfect gift for that special eight-year-old girl in your life.
Steps:
1. Consider her interests: Does she like baseball? Ballet? Books? Search out something that will help her develop her passions.
2. Indulge your inner child: Browse a toy store, real or online, and find something that you think might please her: A kid's magnetic poetry kit? Inflatable pool toys? Electronic memory games?
3. Go for an old favorite like Twister or a cool, new hi-tech watch.
4. Talk to her parents if you're at a loss. They'll know best what's likely to make her happy - and they'll also know what she already has.
5. Take her out to the movies or a children's museum. You'll get a one-on-one visit, and her parents will have a lightened parenting load.
6. Give a gift certificate and she'll be able to choose her own present.
7. Look to the future: Buy a bond for her education fund.
Tips:
Avoid adding to that stack of unused items in the garage - make sure whatever you get is returnable.
Warnings:
Check labels and packaging carefully - whatever gift you choose must be child-safe.

At eight my step daughter really liked taking pictures so we bought her a digital camera and a scrap book. You can get a small digital camera for as little as $18 at Wal-Mart, or just a regular camera with flash and film. You can get stuff for a scrap book at the dollar store.
My niece just turned eight and I bought her a make up bag and stuffed it with glittery makeup and lip gloss, she loved it. You could add hair stuff and nail stuff too.
You could also buy a bucket and stuff it with art stuff and maybe include a how to draw book.
Of course there is always Bratz dolls and things like that if she hasn't already outgrown that.
You could get her clothes if she likes clothes, a new DVD/CD. or a TV, DVD player, CD player if she doesn't already have those
Another favorite of my step daughter's when she was that age was her Karaoke machine that plugged into her TV and showed the words. And she was also given a dance mat that showed you where to put your feet and then monitored if you did it right and got more complex with the dances.
Have fun.

I have an 8 yr old niece and a 6 yr old daughter and they both like Polly Pockets, anything Barbie or Hello Kitty. Maybe a jewelry kit for her to make her own little jewelry.
You can never go wrong with a gift certificate.

My daughter is 7.5. She loves fairy books, art and craft (scrap booking might be a good idea that you can build on at Christmas) swimming basketball Aussie rules football, little girl makeup, clothes, shoes loves cushions of all shapes and sizes for her bed, Care bears. Art and craft is always good as it can keep them busy for a while. DVDs can be good and c.d's. Or if you get along well and she is a girly girl maybe go out for lunch (her choice of place) maybe get the nails done if her mum is o.k with that and let her choose a present just give her a price. If no to nails then maybe a movie.

I suggest you ask the 8 year old herself. Not all kids like the same things. Case in point, most of my daughter's friends were into "Barbie" at that age, she never touched her dolls. She was into R/C cars and racing kits. Her aunt always purchased Barbies for her and she would put them (brand new) out during our garage sales, untouched, still sealed in the boxes they came in. So IF you want your gift to be appreciated ask the child or the child's custodial parent what she likes.

My 8 year old daughter is really into baseball this year. she also likes the camoflauge girly stuff like skirts and sandals. shes also enjoys having a small cd player in her room so she can listen to her own type of music. music wise she likes jo jo, and hillary duff. she also likes the beastie boys (old school). i also buy blank canvas and a few paint brushes and tell her make make me a masterpiece. we have a couple abstract pictures hanging in our spare room. childrens painting are always interesting. I hope these ideas from my daughters likings are helpful.
