To 'pooptanic'. I wouldn't be on someone else's blood supply.

Wow - what an intriguing question!

The answer appears to be "yes." DNA *does* cross the placenta, so one can extrapolate that at least some of the surrogate's DNA should be able to be found in the fetus' bloodstream.

I don't think so, because the egg is already fertilized in a petri dish with the sperm. The surrogate is just the incubator, and would only have her DNA in the uterus, and maybe the placenta. But then again, she supplies the blood and nutrients to the baby, so I would think some of her would be in the baby, but not the DNA for what the baby looks like. Look it up online for a definite answer.

Don't be a doofus. This is like asking "If an adult dives into a pool of somebody else's amniotic fluid, do they absorb DNA from it?" Once you are conceived, i.e. the egg is fertilized, you do not absorb more DNA unless you are some kind of mutant with the power to edit your own DNA. I suppose in the future genetic manipulations like this may be possible in humans but it does not happen naturally. The baby EATS from the surrogate mother, but you do not absorb the DNA of a cow because you eat hamburger do you?

I would think it depends on the level of testing you are doing... A gestational carrier's blood will mix with the baby's, but the chromasomes and other base level cells are already formed before implantation.

Very intriguing question - As a surrogate mother myself (two successful traditional births) I am curious to the true answer to this question!

I don't think so. All the dna is the mother's egg and father's sperm. The surrogate mother is only incubating and feeding the baby.

100% DNA will be from father and mother only. you both donate the exact amount of chromasomes that allow for the child to develop, there can be no more.

I am not sure about blood type though... the surrogate may affect that. good luck!
