Well you can forget the alcohol..if that would be your choice of solutions, then i would believe you use alcohol as a crutch in many situtations. In my opinion, what you really need to find out is the reason you are so uncomfortable in church, what is the underlying problem that has made you feel uncomfortable? If it is a person, talk with them, or talk with your clergy. But, please seek the reason, so you can continue to go to the Lords house.

Look beyond what what a church says,
Look at the effect it has in the community.

Is it a lot of words, books, flowers, and sounds?
Or do they organize clothing drives, contribute and participate in food banks, have volunteer groups for help the sick and poor?

That would make me comfortable in a given chuch, of any faith.

no preacher - no one "guy" standing up in the front acting like he knows or does any better than all of us

also no people at the door greeting me and shaking my hand

also no "all vistors please stand up and display yourself" stuff

I like the "if you want to learn more about us please join us after in the XXXX room"

also words to music or a program printed helps to follow along - no one want to feel "lost"

a map of the building because i need to know where the facilities are

also - don't even think i'm sending my kid off with strangers so i can "worship god" without them - that bugs me about some churches - its about family - i like crying babies - i do!

I have no idea what you are talking about.

My church is the most relaxing, peaceful, most energetic alive place. I love going to my church.
