how often one should replace his/her contact lenses

Contact lens replacement frequency depends entirely on the type of lens, the health of your eye, and your doctor's ORDERS.

Pay close attention to your DOC when he tells you how often to replace or you _will_ have (possibly serious) trouble with your eyes.

That depends on the type of contact lenses you wear. Some should be replaced every day, some can be worn for much longer. The best thing to do is to ask your optometrist what he or she would recommend for the specific type of contacts you are wearing. It isn't something that you want to guess at, since improper contact wearing can cause eye infections or other problems.

Manufacturer's guide line should be followed.

Granted that they are playing safe and asking to replace much early, they do have incentive to sale more product.

Initially all contact lens were hard glass lens.

They were taken out washed and disinfected and reused again and again for years or till they were damaged.

To day most are lighter, plastic or soft, more comfortable, extended ware........but they are disposable. They have to be discarded.

PS

If you do not discard on time then chances of eye infection increases.

You should replace them on the schedule and under the conditions your eye doctor explained when you got them.

daily - if u r using the disposable lens ( which is the safest / most comfortable lens so far !! ).

You do not need to bother about bacterial growth or fungal infection to ur precious eyes.
