I don't live with a disabled spouse but just wanted to say that there is help available. Perhaps your insurance would cover or partially cover a program like Home Health where a nurse, nurse's aid, or a social worker will come to your home to assist you with daily duties or releive you so that you can go run errands or the like. I also think that through an agency like this, you could find counceling or a support group to help you manage your emotions during these challenging times. I wish you all the best and hope that you will reach out and find help because it is available.

This is a very difficult question. I wish you had gone a little further with what kind of disability. My husband has disabilities and it's mentally difficult on both of us. I do know it helps to get away for time alone for each of us. As it is we spend 24/7 together. If your spouse needs constant help ask for help from friends, relatives or an agency. You don't want to put yourself in a position where you become resentful. Physical and mental strain can do a lot of harm on both of you. The caregiver has to look out of themselves as well as the poor soul who has the disabilities. Prayer also helps.

Good Luck

hi, no easy answer to this, i have been looking after my mentally disabled son for 30yrs now and it is still just as demanding.
you try to live a normal life like everyone else but your life isn`t normal, there are two faces of love these days, one i would call touchy, feely love, the other is sacrificial love,of these the latter is the greatest but also the toughest.
caring for someone who is disabled is tiring and at times frustrating, you can feel so alone and hemmed in while it seems that the world is having a ball and passing you by, my advice is to trust in the lord to give you daily strength, and whenever you get the chance get out for a break and never ever feel guilty about it.
remember,if you were disabled which would you choose, someone whose love is touchy, feely and shallow or someone with gutsy sacrificial love?
in relationships there is always the element of fight or flight I have felt like running countless times but with Gods grace I intend to stay in the fight.
in all your hard work and effort I pray that you will find peace, acceptence and YES joy, of course a good sense of humour helps as well.
may the Lord bless you always.
