Yes, I believe it is.
It also depends what you want it for, maybe you could add to your question some specifics?
I work as a clinical hypnotherapist and have successfully treated over 200 people for various issues. I'm not saying it is the best and only therapy out there, but it does have a lot to offer for a very wide variety of issues.
My clients will testify to its effectiveness, many of whom were not sure of whether it would work. Like a previous poster says, if you believe it will, is partly right. Hypnotherpay cannot make you do anythign you do not want to do, accordingly what you see on stage is not a true refelction of the truth about hypnosis.
If you are based in the Uk and are looking for a decent hypnotherapist, check out the websites for the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) or the general hypnotherapy register (GHR).
Good luck

Depends. If the person providing the service takes long enough to do it right. Hypnotherapy is not a "one shot and your done" deal. It is like other forms of therapy and requires time. It works, but it is not a quick fix.

All I know is that Oakwood Hospital is now offering hypnotherapy to stop smoking. According to their brochures, the success rate is over 90%. Apparently it's now reimbursable through health care, so all the patients have to pay is their standard co-pay (if they have one) for each visit. Their program involves two sessions per week, and they say it takes four to eight weeks depending on how long you have been a smoker. Sounds pretty darned good to me...

Worked for me. I was 'haunted' by some back experiences years ago that I couldn't let go of. Hypnotherapy really helped.

Absolutely. No doubt whatever but as the previous post said it's a course of treatment, not a once off. I've been both subject and therapist. I like to explain it as simply a very deep form of relaxation which allows the mind to take on new ways of thinking. Obviously, you have to trust the person treating you.

If you are ill, you will grab at any straw you see to try and get relief from your suffering.. Whether it works, or not, I really can't say. Like anything else, some people swear by it.

My friend gave up smoking after one session only cost £40. Saving money and possibly his life.
