Well, she wasn't engaged...She was a married woman...Joseph was the father of Jesus. About 300 years after this all took place, the Roman church and an emperor decided they needed to reconcile their existing pagan religions with Christianity (as it was known at the time), so they edited (heavily) the books the Christians read, took a few others from some smaller groups, and came up with what we know as the Bible. Along the way, they had to reconcile Jesus the prophet (as the Jews and Christians knew him), with the pagan religions whose gods were always born of virgins. So, they had to make Jesus born of a virgin, so Mary had to be made into a virgin at Jesus's birth, so that's how the story came about. Since the pagan gods were known for their sexual promiscuity (as were the Roman priests of the day) they probably didn't even consider the possibility that anyone would accuse god of being an adulterer.

Anyway, yes, god had to have been an adulterer if the true story had been told, but the way the inventors of the religion put it, god's spirit, not his physical body, impregnated Mary, a virgin (how a spirit can cause a real, biological creature is also not explained) and caused her to swell with child, then god persuaded Joseph to marry Mary to save her from disgrace, and that's how Jesus came to have been born of a virgin after all...And if you believe this crock, I've got some vacation property in Iran to sell you.

Technically if what happened would be called a name its fornication, as neither God nor Mary were actually married to anyone. And since it was kind of done without Mary's knowledge, choice or consent its not like she decided to be with another man. Also, in those times the men were expected to be experienced in the feild of love-making, while the girls had to stay virgins until their wedding day. So men often had many partners before their actual wife...you think Mary was the only woman Joseph slept with? Probably not. This is all just biblical fact and cultural history, I'm not saying anything about whether Christianity is fake or knocking it (I'm a Christian)...just trying to technically clear it up.

BTW she didn't really have a choice. God said so this is what I did, what could she say? He knew she was God fearing and would do anything before he started; so she would bring his Son into the world...now thats really devout don't you think?

Why does it would want to be one or the different? in accordance to the tale, Mary did supply her consent, so it wasn't rape. examine the gospel of Luke. there is continuously a chance that she dedicated adultery, and the tale concerning Joseph's visitation with an angel who corroborated Mary's tale replaced into invented to conceal up Mary's infidelity. besides the undeniable fact that, assuming that the youngster replaced into no longer Joseph's, and he truly replaced into visited with the help of an angel, then it wasn't adultery.

Well lets look at this closely. God supposedly knocked up the Virgin Mary. So:

A. She was no longer a virgin
B. She concieved through another man, being, etc
C. Could have been a lesbian - afterall, God might be a woman

Perhaps rather then this be adultery, it was the first case of artifical insermination.

I suppose you could say that. However, these laws such as committing adultery are meant for humans, because humans commit sin. God doesn't commit sin, he is perfect.
Mary was given a choice, she could have said no if she wanted to, but it was the ultimate honour to become pregnant with the Son of God.

God picked Mary and Joseph to care for his son....there was no adultery...that is laughable.

you should use to time to think about other things other than trying to accuse God of committing adultery.

God did not do it. It was those three wisemen. They came baring gifts because they weren't sure which one was the true daddy.
Mary, was a bad woman. She never let her husband joe near her.
Poor old Joe had to look for a ho...that is why he did carpentry. He had to lay something, so it might as well be a chunk of wood!
