I'd like to know why people even bother answering when they're just going to use one or two words. Its not like you're trying to answer as many questions as possible to win a race. The idea is answering to help people with their questions. Some people don't get it. You're right, I think at least they should not award points for some answers...

It would be nice if they could do that, but they would run into problems in defining what is lousy. I do think that each answer should have to have a certain number of words in order to get the points. Numerous one-word answers just don't cut it.

Actually, though, I think some people have been suspended for posting numerous inane questions. Isn't that what happened to the "What Should I Do? Retard?"

That would be a full-time job for several people at Y!A. It's too much work and not really necessary.

I hate when people don't answer the question that's being asked and just write some bullshit to get the points, but I'm afraid there's not much we can do about that. There will always be some annoying idiots around.

It could be an idea to consider. I can't see it as something yahoo answers staff should do. However maybe it could be set up so that the author of a specific question can have the right to decide if an answer is so bad that it deserves to lose points for the one who posted it. Or if a question goes up for voting the one with the most negative votes could actually lose points for its author.

I think people should get more credit for a "best answer", but based on the total number of answers to a question.

I also think you should get a point for getting a "thumbs up" vote, and loose two points for getting a thumbs down.

No, there isn't an effective "lousy"meter.
Let people have fun, don't pay attention to what you don't like.
