I am not sure that tolerant is quite the word that I would use. I have certainly had to revue a few of my innermost truths since opening myself up to other people's views of the world/my world.
I have only been a member for a couple of months; but yes I think it has changed me in many ways. Small indistinct changes in my thinking that created a hiccup in my universe and maybe made me change course just a little bit.
And I love the audacity of some of the answerers. I don't always catch on that a questioner is having a tongue in cheek smirk until after I have answered the question in my customary fashion. Still I have left the answers there for all to see. Chances are I will never meet any of these people especially as most of them hide behind freak names.
What has crawled up on me unnoticed is that it has strengthened my religious beliefs even as I defend those of others that follow different religions. Now that is weird!!!

By being on YA, I have seen that some people of each faith are fair and respectful, while others are cruel and sick. By this, we can not lump all Christians into one bunch, nor can we group all agnostics, athiests, spiritualists, etc. I have become both more and less tolerant of people - those who have beliefs I disagree with, spoken with respect, I am more tolerant toward than before. Those who have similar beliefs to me, but let the barbs fly, I have less tolerance for. Rather than seeing people on a faith versus faith basis, I am seeing them on an individual basis.

To tell you the truth, since being on the boards, I have seen a lot of attacks on different types of beliefs based on generalizations and hate due to some "bad apples", I don't think it's fair because I respect and non judgmental of others and it sometimes bothers me that since I am a Christian, people have this notion that all of us just run around yelling, shouting, judging and putting others down which is not true in my case. Everyone has their own path in life and what works for me may not work for others and that is OK because I was told to spread the word not shove it down someones throat.

I was tolerant BEFORE I started YA, this site has taught me to dislike christians to a degree that I never thought I could, and also to dislike many atheist (which I am). I don't believe in trying to force anyone into a belief system so most of the religious people on here have turned me off so badly that I can't stand to see a religious figure, I can't stand to here the word "god" mentioned.
So I guess you could say that YA has adversely affected my view of the world and all people.

I haven't been on Answers long, but I am not more tolerant of others, I am shocked by the amount of haters there are!
This country (USA) was built and based on the basis of there being a " In God We Trust." That is one of the great things about this country. Then you have people coming here from other countries and beliefs and taking that away from us, against the Believers wills. That is being in a sense - racist. People say all the time they don't want someone else to push their beliefs on someone else...I don't think it is right that a few can take God out of my children's schools and out of our government. That is what our country was built on!
If you don't like it, go back to the country that you came from, where your beliefs are common and all over and you are not pushing them onto someone else that doesn't want to hear it.
I hate that children are acting out and parents have no control...look at Columbine, look at the kids trying to divorce their parents...crazy, absolutely crazy. All because God is being taken out of our life. And the Bible says that we are suppose to share the good word of the Lord....And with so many people telling us that we can't and that it is wrong for us to push our beliefs on them....GET A CLUE - it is wrong of them to tell us that we can't have our beliefs and it is wrong of them to try and take God out of our lives, That is what this country was built on...Look at the Pledge, our money, and the Declaration of Independence. Removing God from our Country's foundation is why there are so many broken families, so much hatred and why the prisons are overloaded with people - many not knowing there is a God that Loves them and that they could be a good person.
This country was built on the freedom of Religion, each person may have their own, I have no problem with that, but when you want to start atttacking the "Christian" beliefs and taking it out of our lives, which is a belief of many, then you are wrong...Why should we have to have it taken out and have yours put in? Who's the one's shoving down the others throat? I think many have it wrong.

I am always tolerant and I always ignore idiots. As for religions, for me that doesn't even come in to it. I am not particularly religious but I appreciate other people are, I am more than happy to chat with or answer anyone regardless of who they are or what they believe in. That's just the way I have been brought up.

I think that this much contact with other people and different opinions must lead people to open their minds up just a little bit more. Maybe not only about faith and religion but about a myriad of other issues.

Being on here actually finalised my decision to be an athiest. Up until a few weeks ago, I was agnostic (undecided).
I have always respected other religions/people, so that wasn't really an issue.

I never really liked the notion of just being tolerant of others. "Tolerant" sounds like I just want to tolerate them until they leave and then I go back to being the way I was when they weren't there. I think we should try to be more open minded and respectful of others. Being respectful is a lot more appropriate than being tolerant.
