The geek squad put EWIDO antispyware on my system. Is that a good one? Now i need an antivirus. Can you give me some suggestions?

Yes Ewido is very good; you can back it up with a number of free antispyware tools including Spybot Search & Destroy and Spywareblaster
get them here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/
http://www.filehippo.com/download_spywareblaster/

They will not conflict with Ewido and will provide a second line of defence

As for antivirus try any of the following
Avast
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
AntiVir
http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/
AVG
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

but use only one antivirus product at a time. I use Avast and find it easy to use and reliable.

I have no experience with EWIDO antispy, but I have been using several free antispy and antivirus programs and have no complaints.

1) Ad-aware by Lavasoft. Finds and deletes many adware-spyware types. Only downside is that you cannot set it to run automatically and have to run it manually. But it's so simple to use, I run it daily.

2) Spybot Search and Destroy. Finds and deletes many adware-spyware types that Ad-aware doesn't find. Not sure why one program does not find everything, but PC World magazine recommends using both.

3) I also use Panda occasionally, but it's not as easy to use (in my opinion), and I occasionally use Housecall by MicroTrends (also a bit more difficult to use).

4) For anti-virus, I use AVG Free. Seems to work very well and can be set to run automatically every day. It also scans emails for viruses. The downside is that it doesn't run in the background like Norton or McAfee and won't stop viruses from getting in. However, it seems to do a good job of finding viruses and deletes them quickly and easily.

By the way, most of these free programs have imitators that use similar names, so make sure you download the right ones. Some of the programs offered for "free" aren't really free and cause more problems than solutions. Also, most of the free progams offer expanded programs for a fee, but I have never tried them.

AVG is wonderful. Have had it for 4 years and it is free. Think it is grissoft.com.
