Do any of you use the farmers markets that are now springing up all over the UK. Or do you have the tendancy to stick with what you know i.e supermakets or butchers for your meat and veg.

We have a couple of farmer's markets near us and I do use them, but not for my weekly shop.

I just buy treats from them - like really nice fresh cheese and home made chutneys and pies and stuff.

They're always delicious, though I have to say, quite pricey! Hence, it's a treat.

Farmer Direct is bestest. Cut out the middle Corp and taste the freshness.
Subsidies are a modern fact. Pay the farmer not to grow other stuff that is competitive or let the farmer sell for no tax direct to peoples. VAT tax in UK is high, but then again, all taxes are extortion of a controlled group by a few well paid Public Servants.

Being a chef, I believe that farmer's markets are a good way to buy great quality products that have been cared for well by the grower. Usually organic, without all the pesticides, added water etc. that comes with supermarket produce, they taste so much better. Ever cooked bacon and the horrible white rubbery stuff comes out? Nasty. Stick to food that you know has not been messed about with for extra profit I say!

I would use a farmers market if there was one open in the afternoon. The only one near me is open from 7am-2pm on a sunday, which I'm not able to get to.
I would like to be able to shop at a farmers market, when I've managed it in the past the food has always been very high quality and its a more enjoyable shopping experience than going to a supermarket.

We have a farmers market once a month, the quality of the produce is outstanding, especially the meat and poultry, you realise what rubbish the supermarkets are selling us when you have eaten fresh meat bought directly from the farmer. I only wish they were here more frequently.
We now only use supermarkets when we have to.
