as a groomer yes we have had dogs have an allergic reaction to spot on products. a vet can help with a problem as for not putting it on directly on the skin if you don't it wont work it needs to be absorbed into the bloodstream or it wont work and the flea or tick must bite them in order for it to work. spot on products put A poison into the pet so it will only work when the flea or tick bites them to ingest the poison then die and as with anything with pets or humans you can be allergic to ANYTHING.

I think that your dog is more likely to be allergic to the bite of the flea than the frontline flea product. If your dog has a sore then that is a flea bite on your dog. Keep using the product as the fleas NEED to be got rid of. Also remember to spray your house too. For every one flea on your dog there are over 200 flea eggs in your house!

I have never had an allergy to Frontline with my dogs. I use it mainly every other month. I use it once a month when going to dog show. It can cause a reaction, ask your vet about something else like Advantage. Here is the package insert for Frontline Plus.

I've never had one to be allergic to Frontline, but occasionally it does happen. This is the only product I use to control fleas, and as far as I'm concerned it will be the only one I'll use.

Not to frontline but to Revolution.
The dog got a huge lump under the skin and it took a month to go away the vet said not to use that anymore.

If you are talking about a sore yes instead of applying the stuff directly from the tube to the dog apply it as you would hair gel then wash your hands I fide that if it gets on their skin it burns them and makes um loose hair but it sure does work on fleas like nothing else.

in regards to another answer i read, it must be applied to the skin so it is absorbed.....i have applied it to many dogs and cats and never come across a reaction by any of them.....it may be a reaction to the fleas....they can cause sores, and hair loss.
