A large amount of parents will say "when the pediatrician says so". I on the other hand say that the parent knows best in this situation. Yes, the doctor did go to medical school, but they are not at your home everyday playing and caring for your child. If formula seems to be satisfying your baby then stick with it until the doctor tells you otherwise. However, if your little one is hungry a short time after having a bottle, try putting a little baby cereal in their bottle. I did this with my son when he was about 3 months old. I have heard of people doing this sooner than that and later than that.
With baby food in a jar, I introduced my son to it about 2 weeks after I started putting the cereal in his bottle. One suggestion is to introduce veggies before fruit. If you do it the other way, your little one may get used to the sweet taste and not want any of the veggies. And another good point to remember is to only give them one new food at a time. That way if they are allergic, you will know what food it is.
Remember, just like no two answers are alike, no two babies are alike. You know your baby better than anybody else, and all that mommy knowledge will come to you when you least expect it.

Each baby has his or her own body metabolism in breaking down of food. Some kiddos will eat solid food as early as 4 months while others may even stick to breast feeding and bottle food till 8-10 months. Some kids find the breast feeding not filling at all so they tend to adapt to solid food earlier than the picky ones who will throw up anytime they are feed with solid food.
I'll advice parent to try the kids with the solid if they're okay with it then off me go to the world of solid.I'll say some time the doctors can tell u they are not ready while the liqiids are not filling.Go for the solid instead of letting ur baby loose weight and look under feed and get pumped with pills instead of real meal.

When the baby can drink more than an eight ounce bottle every two hours. Of course you want to do this slow. If an eight ounce bottle of formula is not filling the baby.for more than an hour feed it a couple baby spoons of baby food then give him/her aneight ounce bottle of formula. You will know if this is filling tha baby by how well he/she sleeps and how long!! Eventually the baby will want more baby food and less formula. This is when you switch to 2% milk.

yeah, usually around 6 months. i started cereal around 5 months but i've heard of people starting at, like, 2 months. (i wouldn't recommend that though) the first year, a baby primarily gets his nutrition from breast milk or formula. so the food is basically just for experience, to introduce new flavors and textures etc...you could buy that what to expect the first year book. it's pretty informative.

I started my boys on a little baby cereal when they were about 5 months old. About that age they weren't getting enough with just nursing or the formula. I gave them a little cereal in the evening and they slept better at night, waking up to nurse less often.

Do you mean baby food or table food. NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC.
I assume you mean baby food, and that's between 4-6 months of age. But that's just to really practice. They get most of their needs still from breastmilk (or formula).
