If you want to spend a few dollars, the best gift in the world for a 16 yr old is a 3 day trip to New York city to see some shows and eat some good food.

On the less expensive side: an Ipod

even less expensive (or if she has an Ipod) - Itunes

Perhaps pay some money off her prepaid moblie? or gift vouchers for the local shopping centre, young girls love to go shopping so she will get heaps of fun out of a small amount.
If shes not that kind of girl, how about asking her what she would like?
I already do that for my young neices, they love it, i often ask them then take them shopping for what they want
And of course cos im on site, I always spend more than I would have in a voucher, think thats why they like it so much!!
im a soft touch auntie

Depends on your budget but things like CDs and dvds are a good bet - likewise a gift token to buy same. If you want to spend a lot, consider a mobile phone - if she has one on pay as you go then maybe some credit. Remember that items like clothing and perfume may be too "personal" ie she may not like your choice(s)

Tiffany's jewellery - if you look carefully to weed out the fakes, you can find some great deals on ebay - I got a heart-shaped necklace for £32 ($18) with brand new packaging and everything.

The safest thing is something like vouchers for a high-street shop, that way she can buy what she wants.
Or jewellry, but that can be difficult if you're not sure what sort she likes.

Money may seem impersonal, but that is what she will want. Gives her the freedom to purchase what she most desires and will respect and thank you for that. The more money you give (no less than £40) the more gratitude you will receive. Oh yes, don't under estimate teenagers or women come to that!

At this age they all want money, so they can buy the latest trendy item. I know it's cheap and thoughtless but I'm sure your niece will love you more than if you tried to buy her clothes.
