Ok I have a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse w/ 120k miles (automatic, 4 cylinder) and it has tons of scrapes and scratches on the body, a door that is totally messed up and an engine that just BARELY runs. A dealer wants to do a straight trade on a 95 (or 96, can't remember) Dodge Neon with clean body, nice interior and 150k miles. The original price he had on it was $450, but he said he'd give me a straight trade. Should I do it? I mean I need a running car immediately so I can get to work, so I can't really be choosey and this sounds like a good deal to me. But I don't know alot about cars, plus I'm a girl and dealers like to get over on us. SO I NEED ADVICE ASAP!!

A 1995 Dodge Neon? I didn't know those existed, probably 1996. However, don't do it.

My friend, neither of those vehicles are very good cars, and a great price on a bad car is never a good deal. But if you have few other options and not much money, and it will get you to work, maybe it's okay for you. However, at 150K miles, a Dodge Neon is pretty much beyond it's useful life, whereas if you buy a used Honda or Toyota with that kind of mileage, it may still have along way to go.
Good Luck.

150k miles is a lot. Especially for a Neon, they are not made to hold up very well. Your decision but my advice, keep the Eclipse. Atleast with it you know what you have, you never know what you will have if you buy that Neon. You might be a girl but you can still pop the hood. If it is wet or covered in oil, or you see alot of patch repairs (tape, plastic ties, etc.) then stay away. Take it for a drive and see if it feels like it is running smooth. Look under the car where it is parked, if there is a wet spot under there that is bad.

That sounds like a decent trade to me if this is not an Eclipse GS-T or GSX. I'd say go for it - while the value on a Neon sinks like a stone, they are not any less reliable than an Eclipse. In fact, most of the Neon's engine is identical to the motor in a non-turbo Eclipse.

Neon's are not known to be very reliable and durable. However, you need something that will get you to work. I would take the trade. But you need to form a plan to replace the Neon with something reliable as soon as possible. Possibly set aside money out of your paycheck for the purchase of something newer.
