If you follow the plan properly - most people have no problem with their cholesterol levels and in a lot of cases it comes down.

From personal experience - my cholesterol was higher before doing lowcarb and is within normal ranges now. All of my blood work came back better than it did before - I was bordeline diabetic and my doctor was amazed that I am so far out of the ranges now. As for my kidneys (in response to one poster) - again if you follow the plan as intended - you should not have problems unless you already have kidney problems.

I lost 120 pounds in 8 months - and yes my doctor has done full work ups on me and I am so much healthier now then I was before. That was over 2 years ago now and people who run into me now who see me for the first time since then still don't know who I am and say I look 10 years younger. I'm not a strict Atkin's follower and I do at times increase my carbs - but I also know my limits.

You shouldn't believe in any of those pretended diets and just get an appointment with an actual dietetist/nutritionist who will advice you what is best for _you_ and that you keep eating healthy all the while.
