You are apparently misinformed.
Here's the actual facts:
(1) The current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual edition is the DSM-IV-TR. This is the comprehensive guide to all diagnosable behavioral disorders and related conditions in the USA. The DSMV you mention does not yet exist.
(2) The DSM-IV does *not* include homosexuality as a disorder. You are simply factually wrong in making this claim. In fact, no DSM since 1973 has recognized homosexuality as a disorder.
(3) There are a series of sexual disorders in the current DSM. Homosexual identity is not recognized as a disorder, and, indeed, ego-syntonic or ego-dystonic same-sex atttraction patterns as well as homosexual identity are understood by medicine today to be a perfectly normal and healthy variation in a diverse human population. Only zealots with agendas, such as NARTH and Exodus International, disagree, but no national medical or psychiatric association, and no national professional association of any behavioral health discipline (LPCs, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, etc.) have taken the position in the last 30 years that there is anything clinically wrong with being gay, lesbian, or bisexual.
(3) WHile being LGBT is not a form of behavioral disorder, people who are gay often experience social stigma, oppression, and vilification (in case the person above who called LGBt people an "abomination" wasn't your clue that this is still true). This can cause depression & anxiety. These are themselves not a consequence of homosexuality--they are a consequence of homophobia. In any case, these are not the same as saying being gay is a disorder--only that some people experience distress because of social response to their sexual identity, just as they might because of social response to their race or religion or anything else about them.
By the way, what makes your erroneous claim about the state of medical science on gay identity suitable for the Religion & Spirituality section? Could it be that you are inadvertently betraying your real motivation--that your question has in fact nothing to do with psychological science, and everything to do with your religious values system? Just a thought...

It is only a disorder if the client views it as a disorder. If the client doesn't view his/her sexuality as an issue, then it isn't an issue. The reason it is still in the DSMV is because there are still alot of people for whom being a homosexual is a source of great emotional anguish, for reasons such as a conflict between a person's belief that homosexuality is a sin and the fact that their sexuality is not something that they are in control of.

I think you sources are old. I don't remember the year, but the DSMV took homosexuality out of the list of psychological conditions a while ago.
From the page listed in my source below:
"While widely accepted among psychologists and psychiatrists, the manual has proved controversial in its listing of certain characteristics as mental disorders. The most notorious example is the listing in the DSM-II of homosexuality as a mental disorder; a classification that was removed by vote of the APA in 1973 (see also homosexuality and psychology)."

Homosexuality was perceived as a psycho-sexual disorder up until the 1980s. Then only if the person was having trouble adjusting to their sexuality was it perceived as a disorder.
Also the standard constantly changes and it is at the whim of a pack of 'doctors' who let's face it are influenced by societal elements.
So was homosexuality EVER a disorder at all? Your argument is MOOT.

I am not sure it's a disorder in all cases or just a lifestyle choice in most. God still says it's a abomination. And unfortunately there is a very vocal pro-gay lobby, that is trying to corrode the very values of this country & have suceeded in their indoctrination of our children in the American school system. It is time for value voters to take a stand and vote their values.
Please understand, I am not a gay basher or do I support that kind of behavior. I hate the sin,but love the sinner, as with anyone else who sins.. We all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.

It probably actually is, which is why I don't understand why there is so much hate directed at gays. I theorize that homosexuality and pedophilia are closely related disorders and can probably be cured if the proper research is done.
To the people who said being homosexual is a personal choice that is made when you choose to give in to unnatural temptations:
If you are tempted to be with someone of the same sex YOU ARE GAY, that is not a natural temptation that I have ever had- so maybe if you had that and decided to hold back that means you aren't being true to yourself.
To the idiot who said we are either born male or female: What about hermaphrodites, how do you explain them?

It's a birth anomaly that doesn't need a cure because it only hurts Christians and other Homophobes, and Bigots who feel they have the right to stick their noses in other peoples lives. Because they think of them selves as self righteous and are bored with their own life.

Why is it that nobody wants to be responsible for being homosexual? Maybe because deep down, they know that it's wrong.

You're an idiot.
Even if it is, most psychologial issues are chemical in nature and therefore there by the design of God.
Why do you care so much anyway?
