I have a 14 yr old dog who was doing the same thing. We ended up ripping out the carpeting in the living room, it got so bad.
Turns out she had recurrent urinary tract infections. One person at work said, "I'd have her drink doggie cranberry juice." I got to thinking about prevention, and called Drs. Foster and Smith, a veterinary mail order catalog company. They recommended Urinary Acidifier for dogs and cats.
IT'S A MIRACLE! I give her two tablets every morning. She quit peeing in the house. Totally. It's been over a year now.
I don't know if this is the answer for you, but it's a cheap way to find out and will not hurt your dog.

My grandmother had this same issue with her two dogs once they had gotten fairly old. She started using pee-pads for them. I think it has to do with their age...not being able to make it outside before she goes or just simply not wanting to do the whole wait, go out and pee, and make it back in the house again. 13 is getting up there in age for a dog. Has anything new at all been introduced into the home? Any less affection being shown? She might be trying to get your attention too. Wish you luck on getting the situation under control.

My eleven year old rottweiller does the same thing and the vet could'nt find anything wrong either. I believe she's getting senile and maybe does'nt know she's doing it. If you've ever been to a nursing home all the ole folks wear diapers. That's the only thing that I can think of that would be any help

Mine did that. Its just a pup, but she had been trained before not to. Suddenly she started up again. We cleaned all of the areas real well and then kept an eye on her 24/7 again. We put her in the kennel or outside when we couldn't watch her. When we saw her trying to mess inside, we sharply said NO! and took her outside. When she went out there we treated her.. basically having to train her all over again.
Hope this helps.

I agree with the people who say it is probably a UTI. I would go to another vet - one that specializes a bit in older animals - and have her retested! Good Luck!

It could just be old age. If she goes in the same spot you could put down newspaper or absorbant sheets.

She's pretty old, maybe she can't help it, or she just doesn't want to move.
