My dad was involved in a work accident, and nearly had both legs severed in the middle of the lower leg- around the calf area.

He had to have surgery to "pin" the leg bones back in place, and was limited to a wheel chair for around 6 months. He also had to do very extensive physical therapy, and learn to walk again. He had to have a hospital bed in our living room, and needed to be transported back and forth to the bathroom by wheel chair. Because the house was not very handicap accessible, he had a lot of problems with that.

He also had to have help dressing, as well. It took him almost a year to get back to normal and walking normal again.

By crutches or wheelchair and u might need to invest in larger pants or wear shorts that will go up the casted legs.

When that happened to me I had to slide around on my tongue for days. Needless to say after a few days there was nothing left of my tongue. I then had to mug someone steal their tongue and attach it to the stump that was left of mine. But this new tongue had memories of it's previous owner who happened to be an obsessive compulsive strangler. I tell you was I glad when my legs were working again.

Wheel chair, you would need help with anything to do with the lower half of your body.
