The biggest disadvantage of a big family is never being alone or having any privacy. You become selfish and guarded of any time you get and in todays fast moving world this is a terrible thing to deal with later in life. In a small family you don't learn to give and be compassionate as well as within a large family. This led to the "me" generation. A very different kind of selfish in that these people are always saying what is in it for "me". I want. In the long run, the first kind of selfish is probably best and the second will be the downfall of our society.

I am the youngest of 8 kids!!! I LOVE my big family! One of the good things about a big family is that if there are siblings that are bad, you can choose to be around the good siblings. In my family, there are 4 of us that get along really well with all of our siblings and we do things together as much as we can. The other four always fight and steal, so we don't have many dealings with them, but we do talk to them.

Even around holidays it is fun! Not all of us get together cause there are so many of us. We don't buy everyone a present, that would be insane, but sometimes we do a polly anna (pick a name from a hat then get that person a gift).

My fiance has one other sibling. It is nice cause you only have to worry about one other sibling, and it is easier to get together around the holidays, but to be honest, it is too quiet for me!

I have so many memories with all of my brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews, I wouldn't change it! Having a large family helps build character... I had to share a room with 3 sisters, but you know what, it was fun!! I had my privacy when I needed it, plus the older siblings moved out of the house when they could, so that also helped!

small familys equal more alone time together, more talking, knowing exactly what everyones up to, not as many money problems but a larger family creates more people for everyone to talk to, more help around the house, and support from so many people in a crisis.
