nothing like that is ever easy to someone that young, but your going to have to tell him (sooner than later is better in this case), but how to actually tell him and have him understand is going to be the hard part. I was lucky as a child growing up on a farm, because I had pets and that, so I understood about death. If you belong to a church or something, have the minister help you explain it to him, if not, there should be a support group or something in your area that may be able to help you, if not that, if you know a good neighbor who you trust and respect, ask them for help in explaining it to your brother. Good luck in what ever you do ... and sorry about your loss

sit your brother down and just be honest with him. Tell him that your mom will never really be gone, as long as you keep her love in your heart. Always be open and honest about death, that is something all of us go thro. and be there for your brother, with lots of love and answer any questions he has, to the best of your ability(don't lie, if you don't know tell him that).

If you are a Christian, tell him God needed a special angel to watch over the little baby angels in heaven, and while his mother would have liked to stay and be with him, and you, she was too ill to stay with you any longer, but he will see her one day again, and she will always be watching over him.

Tell him that her spirit is there. Watching over him. Checking in on him. This is a comfort the child needs. And who knows?? She probably is.
