It's going to be easier for you because a 3 month old has some control already. Dogs learn best with lots of praise. What you do is keep the puppy in the room with you so you can keep an eye on him. Take him out after a nap, after hard playing, after a long drink or if he just hasn't been out in a while and looks restless.

You need to go out with him and the very second he pees, you give him lots and lots of praise and come back in. This is so he learns the difference between play time outside and potty time.

When he makes a mistake, quietly clean it up, unless you catch him in the act, then tell him no very firmly and take him outside. Praise him if he finishes outside. With this method you're basically not giving him a chance to make a mistake, you're giving lots of praise for correct behaviour, and also building a relationship of trust with your puppy which will carry over into all future training. Good luck!

The best way to housebreak any puppy is to take him out after every meal, and every two hours in between. He's a baby and with a lot of praise each time he's successful, he will get the idea in no time. A Lab and Lab/mix dogs are very smart and catch on quickly.

Patience and persistence. Watch the dog carefully, and if she starts to pee in the house, bring her immediately outside to finish. Don't yell at her for peeing inside the house or rub her nose in it or anything, because that will make her think that it's bad to pee, so she'll just try to pee in the house without getting caught. Bring the puppy out 1st thing in the morning, shortly after she drinks a lot of water, before bed as these are times when she might have to pee. Praise her when she goes outside. With my dog, we put a small cowbell on a string right next to the door. Every time we took her out, we rang the bell on the way. Now, whenever she needs to go out she tells us by ringing the bell herself. Good luck with the dog, it's always great to hear that people are adopting from shelters!

my lab puppy is also 3 months old what i do is take him out when he wakes up in the morning then i watch for his signs and if i see him starting to potty i say no no and we go outside to where he normally goes i give him a treat and praise him then after that its after he plays after he eats after he sleeps it seems as if im taking him out all the time but so far so good when he does have an accident i wash it with soapy water and then spray Woolite pet stain and Odor remover on the spot ....he loves the praises so he seems to try harder not to potty in the house ..... good luck with your puppy and enjoy him
