A street cleaning vehicle is going down my street to clean the gutter?

As it's going along it's blowing loads of black smoke out of the back at the same time....whats the point of it in the first place?

its more than Diesel fume ...it's like it's on fire.

I'm not opposed to the job it does but surely they can make them so they pollute my street less and dirty my clean windows?

The black smoke is to hide the dirt. I would call and tell your city hall, maybe the truck needs maintenance.

It clears up the leaves. If it didn't: they would clog the drains. If the drains get clogged, then when it rains the road will not drain, and about one foot (at a guess) from either edge of the road will be a puddle. That'll screw up cars as a) one wheel will be in water, with one in the road (makes driving really difficult if you've ever tried it) and b) the roads will be wetter, increasing stopping distances.

Call the police and make a complaint about excessive vehicle emissions. I get just as irked when I see a police car parked at a parking meter and it says "time expired".

To keep the streets free of debris and garbage. The smell is a bonus.
