My sister in law was submitted to hospital with severe migrains and became complete disoriented, suffering from muscle numbness and nausea. She was then discharged but after three days at home hasn't gotten up from bed unless to go to the bathroom. She is ignoring her kids, hardly speaks and hasn't smiled. She is normally loud, spontaneous and a joker. She's been under tremendous stress at work and home. could she be having a nervous breakdown?

this could be a possibility, I wonder why they didnt evaluate her when she was submitted to the hospital. I think that maybe she should talk with a person who works in the field of stress and maybe they can help her. Good Luck

Migraines will make a person feel disoriented and nauseous. Does her husband help take care of the kids so she can get some decent rest? She could be actually not be ignoring the kids, just waiting for him to take over a little so she can recoup for a day. I wouldn't smile much either if I had a severe migraine.

She needs to see a doctor for this, since it isn't going away. She could have high blood pressure or she might be able to get other help from the doctor. She's probably also being wise to have little interaction while this is going on. Otherwise she might feel like being n a s t y. Wouldn't you? Her doctor probably ordered her to rest and she is doing her best to comply.

Migraines themselves can make a person feel disoriented and have muscle and limb numbness as well as nausea. Perhaps she's still in bed because she's being treated as though she's crazy.. you yourself think she's having a nervous breakdown. Migraines are very painful and debiliatating.. yet people often treat those affected with them as though they are babies ( You only have a headache, get over it )

Let her know that you know she's hurting. Let her know that you don't think she's crazy.. and she might come out of it.

Oh yes she certianly could. I'm not psyciatrist but my mother is having a breakdown as we speak. sometimes life just hits you if you take on too much & bottle things up. But of course it could be side effects of the drugs. Drugs maybe there to help but unfortunatly they hinder at the same time. Theres side effects of every drug. But do not rule it out get the doc's to look into it. You have to push them unfortunatly! Definatly worth finding out. Hope she gets better soon x

sadly, it might be the side effects of powerful medication: she will gradually recover, if normally she is a jovial, fun person with lot of resilience: feed her on her favourite pastimes, get children to stay with her for long durations, play music, give her company: she will come round, certainly.
