You ask a good question and make a good point!

Now that christianity is the most oppressed group in america and prayer and biblical teaching has been removed from schools and public p;aces we can see the decay of society as a direct effect.

Children that are taught biblical christianity are more likely to be successful, joyful, and productive members of society. On the other hand children that are never allowed to know the lord often grow up empty and questioning thereselves. Hence all the "self-exploration" drug use, sex, and crime. Parents are responsible for their children, they are gifts from god that he expects you to raise in his grace.

3 John 1:4 (King James Version)
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

I think religion is an explanation for something, anything, we do not understand. So if we are not taught how the world works, for example how the Earth oribts the Sun, we as curious humans will develop ideas of Gods that control how the Sun moves and that. Of course we now accept this religion of Sun Gods is rubbish because we can explain how the Earth orbits using science. Unfortunately science cannot yet explain everything so many ignorant people turn to their ideas of higher powers to explain things we do not understand. Eventually I think there will be enough rational thinking in humans to erradicate this disease called religion. I just hope the fundamentalists (from all the religions!) dont destroy this fine rock we live on before we get a chance to figure it out.

Possibly 'Comparative Religion' in college.
Ask your own questions and find your own answers. Anything you learn from one church, or one organization, or one person will be biased in favor of a particular religion or viewpoint
Use your computer to research the Bible, the Koran, the Tao de Ching--and, I'm sure there are many others.
Go to different churches. Maybe Baptist this week, Episcopalian next, try Buddhist after that. You will learn a lot and meet some interesting people.

How do you teach opinion?Religion is based on faith and opinion. If you want to know Catholicism then read about them and attend a service, the same holds true with any religion. The key is you must read the scripture and discern for yourself the truth. Otherwise you are being indoctrinated or spoonfed someone else's opinion. And always read the whole passage and not just one verse for many things are taken out of context this way. I have seen it many times...here and in churches of every denomination. I think the churches do it on purpose sometimes so that they can explain something into or out of existence.

Religion is part of history and surely you studied history in school. The pursuit of further knowledge about religion specifically becomes a matter of personal choice and there's no shortage of religious writings and fanatics to assist in the personal endeavor.

Check out the writings of Ludwig Feuerbach--excellent theories on the beginnings of religion. In his view, there would be no need for teaching, as man is liable to worship something that provides for him--the sun, the rain, the river, etc.

If a distant society doesn't have, or doesn't now about religion-they all would have some sort of laws, moral standards that they all live by.

Your not judged by your religion, but how you lived your life.

each person is born with a spirit, and made with a nature that instinctively senses that there is a God of some kind- a higher power... as he grows he either identifies the true source, or is diverted into the world and senses that the higher power is there somewhere. Hopefully, the person will find the true God, and will be much happier for it

That's the problem: even though it is taught, we still don't *know,* but some people are so convinced that they do that they are willing to kill for it. There's a fine line between faith in what you instinctually believe and insanity. Despite whatever is in your heart - Jesus, Mohammad, Hannuman, Isis, YHWH - you do not KNOW. You STRONGLY SUSPECT. You BELIEVE. but you DO NOT KNOW.

We wouldn't. I grew up without religious training until I was 16 years old. You have a much healthier perspective on life that way. No guilt and neuroses.
