What does the extension named ".rar" means....

rar is a compressed file, similar to zip. A rar file can have any kind of file(s) compressed within it. You need to download a compression program and use it to extract the file(s) out of the rar file. Try winrar from http://rarlab.com It is shareware (free) but after 30 days will give you a nag screen everytime you use it unless you register it.

Once you have extracted the file(s), hopefully you will be able to figure out what to do will them.

WinRAR is a compression software that creates these files ... ".rar" is a compression format that is proprietary to their software ... WinRAR is similar to WinZIP, only better.

Its a type of zip file.
I use a freeware program called Filzip to open these
