Ok so I just recently got a dog, it's an older dog not really a puppy probably a year or so old. I am having a hard time training it to stop using the bathroom in the house. Does anyone have any really good tips? I just don't know what to do and am really to the point of giving up and just making him stay outside, but I don't wanna do that. Because he is using the bathroom in the house I think he is getting my other 2 started. They have been trained, I just worry they may start. I make sure I see him go before I let him in and he is only in say maybe 6 hours. Any advice would be great

Be consistant with training. Set a pattern. First thing in the morning, then it possible every 2 hours after. Scold, do not punish, your dog for using the house as a bathroom. Are you sure that this is not marking? Is your dog spay or nutered? That will help with marking. The key is being consistant.

Your dog may just be "marking" territory for the other dogs to understand that he is "The Dog!" Is the dog fixed? Doesn't sound like it....eventhough, you need to remove all smell of feces or urine or they will all "mark" after a while...why not? Smells like it's what they are supposed to do! Use a good commercial cleaner..NO AMMONIA..and a strong commercial stain and smell remover....you may also need a black light that will pick up on urination that you didn't know about....patience and they will all learn/smell what is the right thing to do. The dog is trying to dominate the pack and house with it's smell though

Crate. Everytime you open the crate send him out. If he doesn't go then put him back in the crate. Sometimes you have to send the kids to their room if they are not behaving properly.

Is everyone altered. If you are having a problem with marking altering may help. If not try a bandage wrapped around his waist of his marker. He will not go on himself.

Find a good trainer who does positive training. Take him out more often, until he poops, and reward him when he poops outside.
