I have a ten year old son who has Dyspraxia and I worry about him and how he'll cope when he's older.

I'm a teacher and have worked with dyspraxic children. I've noted that many children literally tend to 'grow out of it' as they become more aware of their actions. This has been the case with girls that I have noted more than boys though, probably because girls become more self critical (as I was informed on a recent awareness course). Your sons school should be able to advise you in detail and I'm guessing that if your son has been properly diagnosed, your doctor should be able to offer you some advice and support.

i had never heard of dyspraxia until i started working with a 14 year old child that has it. i have read up on it on the internet also. depending on how bad it is there is no reason why he cant lead a normal life. i cant discuss too much on here as he is not my son but you can email me if you want.

There is plenty of support available. Please use it as much as you can! http://www.dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk/ , for example.

The more that your son also works with you to understand, the better. We are given to support our kids but, when it comes to it, they are individuals - their own people - and must (and CAN) learn to cope with their own individualities (I was going to say dysfunctions - but while THEY may function OK, it is learning to function in the world that is the problem.)

Remember that people with other disabilities learn to cope very well.
