I think this was introduced by the dairy industry to have more people by butter. I could be wrong though.

Technically it's not plastic, but it is one molecule away from being plastic. I've read that margerine was originally created to be used as an industrial lubricant for machines. For whatever reason they decided to add dye or something and make it a butter substitute.
Knowing this I still prefer it over butter though. When cold it's still easy to spread and it tastes better to me.

Margarine is one of the worst things you can eat. It a completely artificial "food" that doesn't exist in nature. It is basically one big pile of trans fatty acids which there now have to be listed on foods in the US. It is VERY bad for your heart. Butter has more fat but most recepies don't use much butter in them

As many things that they have changed (and are changing), it would not surprise me a bit. If you do some searching, you'll find out a lot about genetic engineering and such and how the government will do WHATEVER it has to do to keep bad information under wraps.
There's a lot more going on than you think! Do a search or two for genetically modified food (corn), Round-Up Ready Soy, etc. A lot of info out there!

Butter is salted and fit for breakfast and meals. Margarine is for cooking. By the way light margarine is actually the same as the normal one! Every molecule has more water molecule attached to it. The sarcassm is you might pay more for light margarine whereas you are actually gettin less for your money. In other words: you are paying for water and margarine!

What you have read is pure nonsense. It was not intended to fatten turkeys. It was strictly an effort to hydrolyse vegetable oils to broaden the market potentials and perhaps generate additional cosmetic and soap products. Plant oils are much better than animals fats...read again current information on canola, olive and sunflower oils that are used in margarines.

I like butter better because I don't like to eat anything made to be similar to something else. If it's natural, it's always better than artifical, I say.
