"phalos" is totally wrong about the differences.

Shia Muslims never say Ali was supposed to be the messenger. The difference is about the leader after the prophet Mohammad. Shia says it was Ali his first follower and son in law and his cousin as well, as it was commanded by prophet in the day of Ghadir.

Sunnies say it was Abu Bakr and Umar who decided to be the leader just after the death of prophet.

If by that you mean 'who do they worship'?
Suni and Shi'a both worship Allah, the "god" of the universe.

Suni and Shi'a have a split over 'who' Allah chose to be the Rasool (messenger). The Suni believe that it was Muhammad.
The Shi'a believe that it was supposed to be Ali.

They will argue and fight over 'who was to be the proper prophet'.

The Shi'a may say that the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) was tricked into picking Muhammad.
The Suni may say that the Shi'a are wrong.

And so on and so forth.
