Organic apples are not waxed. If you are going to eat apples, you should go organic. Pesticides are used the most on regular apples then any other fruit because so many insects like them.

It certainly isn't to preserve them.It's done to make the fruit look more attractive.This is done with many fruits besides apples.The wax probably isn't bad for you but it sure isn't necessary.Best place to buy them is a farm market or orchard.You'll circumvent the waxing process this way.

Only to look good for you. Avoid the apples so shiny that you have to wear sunglasses in the store. We generally don't eat the peel as a result of this anyhow.

It helps make them last longer befor going off, and protects them in transit. They also look better in shops to make you buy them-
I don't think it is nessesary though
