Find ways to make it fun! How old are your children? Are they independent readers yet? Learning to read on their own? Or not ready to read yet themselves?
For beginning readers, I highly recommend the "Bob Books" series of readers. They build upon each other, adding another group of letter sounds with each book. They are short and simple. This is how I taught my oldest to read.
Try library story times or craft times. Participate in library reading programs. Ours does one every summer where the kids earn points and get prizes such as milkshakes, free books, toys, baseball tickets, bowling passes, museum tickets, etc.
Let them see you reading for pleasure.
Read to them every day. Use your voice to make the stories fun. Different voices for different characters. Make your voice reflect the action of the story....act a bit!
If they are learning to read, take turns. You read a sentence or a paragraph or a page and then they read the next one. Or they read the first sentence on a page, etc.
Talk about the books. Have them look at the cover first and read just the title and get them to predict what will happen. If they like to draw, have them draw a different ending to the story after you read it. Or have them write a sequel to the story. You can do the writing if they tell you what to write.
Act out favorite stories like Little Red Ridinghood or The 3 Bears of the 3 Little Pigs together. Make up new endings if you want.
Play rhyming games. Make up nonsense words. Get fridge magnets of letters if you don't have them yet. Make up stories together.
Look for books at the library on things that interest them. Cartoon characters, favorite animals, sports figures, etc.

I love reading too! It is my favourite pass time by far. I can understand your concern, I have no children right now but I always tell my hubby, I really hope our kids like reading. I want to set up a library for them and all! My mom used to take me and my sister to live readings at our local library when we were younger. Rather than reading the story ourselves, we would hear someone read it to us. The environment of the library got us interested because we would go almost every week for that, then as we grew a bit older, we started picking out our own choice of books to read. You didn't mention how old your kids were? We were 6 and 9 at that time. Reading is a very useful hobby. Apparently reading makes you smart, I don't know how, but that's what I hear. Good luck, my fellow bookworm! =)

go to your library children's area and check out audio book classics for the gender of your child. Books like a little princess or a secret garden. you can even start with magic treehouse books for younger ones. Then bring the cd player into the kitchen (that is where I am most of the time) and listen to it yourself while cooking, cleaning, ect, but only when they are in earshot. They will soon get into the stories. Listen to different ones in the car. It took my son a couple of months, but now he's like "mom, are there other books like those?" The next step is to check out the type of books that clicked with your child. Have them laying around the house, then have a ten minute a day reading time. Ten minutes is never too much to ask. Now my son keeps reading after the ten minutes is up.
the secret is to find what interests them. good luck and God bless.

I love to read to... I volunteer at a library and in order to get the kids to like reading more and get into the books and things like that.... here are some suggestions....
-change the voices of the characters.... kids HATE monotone voices...
-make reading a game... the more books they read... they get prizes....not every time they complete a book but like every 10 books or something like that... and make sure they actually read the books by asking them a question.
GOOD LUCK!!!

specific you are able to. The solutions different human beings gave are a thank you to bypass approximately finding books which you like, and actually effective are librarians. There are some factors of our lives that we are going to no longer continuously have it our way. once you get accessible and finding for a job, analyzing skills are a pair of 0.33 of the working day, and writing skills are something. a classification of scholars (say 30) are all analyzing a similar e book, and could would desire to write comments on a similar e book. there'll be from 3 or 4, or each and every so often a million/2 the class won't like the e book. No possibilities right here. the explanation those scholars do no longer in basic terms like the e book is they have actual no longer tried. (i comprehend you think of you probably did.) in case you are able to start up with an open suggestions and tell your self that the counsel is effective to your paper and you will attempt to love the 1st financial disaster. it will be plenty less difficult. Being bored is what you're doing, no longer the e book. a great number of our literature has been handed down for years and not many human beings discovered it "uninteresting." you are able to ask your self questions relating to the fabric, something of the financial disaster, or maybe though works to maintain you entering into what the author is attempting to tell you. believe me, that's what he/she is doing. What does he elect me to comprehend? Staying open minded is a superb trait, and you would be surprised how plenty extra effective the e book turns into as you examine it. once you are able to say you like analyzing, you would be getting the respond. in simple terms exchange your suggestions-set. you do no longer hate analyzing till you have chose to.

I also love reading since when I was little... I think you should start by reading to your children books they might like, containing their interests. Then maybe you should make them realize that books are useful for finding information and having a good time... Show them that books can transfer the readers to magic worlds, to places to which they've never travelled...

does your library have a special storytelling time? maybe having someone who is different from yourself tell the story might help. some places (libraries) have speicalliy trained staff who tell the stories with props and voices and other things to grab children attention.
children may be more apt to enjoy reading when there are other children there listening to the same story.
I don't know how old your children are or where your from but a great author to read to children is Robert Munsch he has lots of humor and great pictures for the children.

That all depends on how old your children are. Have them pick out books that are interesting to them, even if it is a Barbie book or Power Rangers...at least they are reading. You can make little ones more interested by sitting on the floor with a fun book(lights, sounds book)and reading to them with excitement and different voices. Even if your little one is walking around, they are still listening!

What are your kids interested in ? Do you have boys? Maybe dinosaurs, snakes, sharks. Do you have girls? Maybe stories about other girls. Explain that by reading, one can lean about nearly anything that they are interested in. My nephew didn't want to learn to read and I bought books with a lot of good pictures. I also read with different voices for each character. If they like cartoon shows, maybe a book featuring their favorite cartoon character.

This is what I did I took my son to the local book store and had him pick out books that interested him. Then every night we have quit time which means everybody in the house reads their book of choice. Then when quit time is over we talk a few minutes about our books then he has free time to do what he wants.
