Have you tried changing the food? Some foods once opened, start to get a flavoring change after it hits the air...don't know why, but have seen this ALLOT, especially with kidney failure food. I would try changing the food, or buying pouches of food, maybe it tasts different?

Actually you should be feeding your cat dry food. Canned food is 78% water by volume. So if you feed canned alone you are basically watering your cat. Canned should be used as a treat or at the most fed once a day in small quantities. Buy a good dry food that has a meat as the first ingredient. I use Iams. If you do this you will find the cat poops less and it doesn't smell as bad if no canned food is fed. I raised persians for years on Iams dry. I stopped canned because it got to the point where every time I opened a can of anything I'd have 5 cats meowing at my feet. If I gave it to them once in a while they didn't become annoying monsters about the can opener. Not that they could ever really be annoying but you know what I mean. Or you would if you had 5 cats. lol
P.S. look at the ingredients on a can of food. You will see it says water sufficient for processing. Then in another spot it says moisture 78%

cats DO NOT need that much canned food... a teaspoon twice a day is enough (more will rot their teeth)
he needs dry all the time
here is what you do.. 1 teaspoon canned mixed with 1-2 teaspoons warm water - make soup - this will help their urinary tract, without wrecking their teeth, once a day is enough if kitty is over 6 months, but twice is ok too
if he doesnt eat it - too bad, DONT open a new can for him, eventually he will decide if he wants it bad enough or not and will learn you are not going to open a new can
make sure the can is well sealed in the fridge so its not picking up other food smells which he doesnt like

The cat will eat when it gets hungry enough. Fresh or day old food. Battle of the wills & you've been losing.
You should be feeding your kitty dry food. It is better for their teeth in the long run. Mix the dry in with the older food for a change then taper off the moist food.

Only give him half the can. That adds up to one can of soft food a day, which is a fine amount. The best way to get a stubborn cat to eat is to allow the natural hunger feeling to dictate their eating habits. My male is the same way with soft food, but he's going to have to get used to something different soon. We're switching from a mostly hard food diet (free-fed), to twice a day servings of soft canned and frozen raw food. Believe me, cats will eat when they're hungry.
I see a lot of people recommending you give him hard food. I thought it was an OK practice as well....until I read this;
http://www.catinfo.org/
Seriously, give it a read. Hard food is NOT good for cats. Not in the slightest.

maybe he is a really smart kitty and sees you opening the can try putting the lid back on the can and act like you are opening a new can even tho the can has been opened this might work if not maybe you could add a little milk or something you think he might like Good luck with your kitty

Pour a little of your cooked meats, soup, drippings on second helpings. ONLY serve half a can. Learn to make openning noise=cats key to freshness?
Check other products.
I use crunchy stuff to keep teeth clean
and being dry stays that way
when you are away and it is hungry.

Stop catering to your cat! Put out the leftovers, not much at a time, and he will eat them if he is hungry. I hope you are feeding dry food, too. Too much canned food isn't good for cats.

I had that problem with my cat and found that buying the small packets in the end would save me money. Special kitty makes a good one.

Instead of microwaving let it warm naturally and add a little water. Refuse to open another can and he will eat it.
