Yes I believe that religion has importance in people's lives.
We all have something inside ourselves that yearns for peace, justice, love, and truth.
Our hearts would be empty if we just relied on this world to fulfill the yearnings mentioned above. The world can only satisfy us to a certain degree.
We search for the sacred and it is found when you contrast it with the profane(worldly).
God has in a way, imprinted our hearts for us to be able to seek him out when we finally have enough of the false promises that this life offers us.Religion, when followed according to the Will of God, can bring us the enlightenment, the sense of wonder or awe of God, and peace in our hearts.

Well, I think that it's very important for people to CONTEMPLATE religious matters, such as where life and the world originated, and what happens after deat, and what our purpose in the world is. I am a firm believer in the contemplated life. And I think that, if you live in a community where religion is really what binds people together, then I think it's best to take part in that, simply to maintain yourself as a respectable member of your community.
Is it important for a person to whole-heartedly accept the tenants of an organized religion? No. The world is full of many great and wonderful religions, and I think they all deserve consideration. All too often people champion the religions they were raised with and firmly reject the thoughts and concepts of the rest of the world as inferior, misled, or even blasphemous. That is a very insideous and terrible, terrible form of ignorance because it causes hate, and it keeps us as humans further apart and more firmly divided during a time in history where we could really use more unity and peace.
So, in short, my answer is no. What's important is to contemplate religious matters on your own and form your own opinions, but to keep your opinions to yourself inasmuch as it would alienate you from your community, if that applies. Be your own person, hold your own thoughts, respect the views of others, and accpet religion only if you truly believe it or if it is a social necessity in your family or town. But there is no good to be had in simply giving in to someone else's ideas and concepts without searching within yourself, and certainly there is much to be said for the person that has their own sense of spirituality outside the bounds of organized religion.

In all things there must be some type of Checks and Balances System. If not mass chaos and confusion would over run us. Imagine there were no Religions, no sense of right or wrong, that would make this an "Anything goes" society. Murder, theft, all types of violence would be ok because there is not any "idea" of right or wrong. Whether you believe in religion or not something has instilled in each person that special sense of "Right or Wrong" be it God or whatever, were we just born with this concept or were we taught it by some higher power. Regardless of the answer it is still there.
Those who call themselves Atheist, or say Religion is a fairytale need to ponder this subject and thought. If they learned it from thier parents who taught them ?

I personally don't feel it's important in my life, that's why even though I was christened a Catholic I have chosen since my teens not to practice any religion.
I do see how it is omportant to people though as it is something to believe in. People would probably crack up if they thought they would die and thats that, no more Mary, just die and rot and eventually be forgotten. It is quite a scarey thought I find it funny that the condition of the human race is death but it's what people fear most. It's a fear of the unknown really... so if people believe in this thing they call God, the fear is calmed a bit, they have a saviour, somewhere to go better than this earth.

Religion is faith. And to me, faith is about believing in something even if there's no physical matter to really ensure that the religion is real.
I am a Muslim from birth and although I do not claim to be the most pious Muslim ever, I feel that being a Muslim gives me a sense of direction.
What direction?
I'm still figuring that out (:

Well I¸m Christian but don¸t go very often to Churc even though I believe in "something out there" I hold a grudge against church... they do not help poor ones, they have lots of money but dont give away to needy ones, people are afraid of hell so they support such extortion, but if they devote their life to God shouldn¸t they work in our best interest not theirs? But religion is important and it¸,s nice when you can have hope that there is something after our death!
p.s. that is situation in my country not necessary in others

I think the important thing is having proper morals. Religions are around because it teaches people morality and to lead one to give a positive impact to others. If an Atheist still holds morals, in my opinion, religion is not all that important...

I'm not into religion.
I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I do worship in a church, and that church has a denomination, but I use it as an outlet for my praise and a place to learn more about the Bible. I think it is important to fellowship with believers in the local church, but I am not religious.
