I went on a management course a few years ago, and the attributes need for the perfect manager, were split between my Mum and Dad, but together they represented the "perfect manager" Best parenting is when both parents give a united front and don't vie for the spot of "Best parent" or "Best friend" Mum sorts out the emotional stuff and Dad sorts out hanging shelves and car problems... so both

This is really tough to say. But still I will give an edge to my dad. I can justify it. In simple words, father can play the role of mother (if needed) but mother hmmmmm. I think no. Though both have equal importance. But as you grown up, the importance of father become more and more. So I will certainly say DAD.

u need both to be balanced.
dad gives:
1) sense of security 2) identity & goal setting (who u are?)
3) discipline (in love off course for lack of motivation)
4) encouragement to cause u to believe that u can be successful
mom gives:
1) warm & love 2) inspiration 3) creativity 4) manners & respects
obviously this is not exhaustive. Peace, lady

My dad died when I was three, and my mother had to play both roles after that. She always made sure I had male role models in my life (uncles, family friends), and nurtured and supported me as well as any set of parents could. She sacrificed much of her own life for my benefit, and for that I'm forever grateful.
My dad was a great parent while he was alive, and I'm sure he would have been as I got older, but life is seldom fair. My mom did an exemplary job of parenting under difficult circumstances.
Which was the better parent? Define "better." I'm sure they both did their best.
Waste no opportunity to love both of your parents while you still have them.
Thanks for the evocative question.

My dad was always my best friend as long as I sat down and drank alcohol with him

My mom .... she was always the one I could come to about anything. My dad .. has a hard time expressing emotion.
