Same thing your doctor tell you. Rest and drink lots of fluids. And eat healthy meals even though you don't really feel like eating when you're sick.

I personally use a organic natural mixture of different types of medicinal mushroom product called X5POWER IA365. It's not your typical supplement, to me it's natural medicine. Normally, I take it when there's weird weather changes, during a flu season, and right when I start to feel like I'm catching a cold. It works wonders. Better than any other stuff out there, because if and when I do get sick if I take cold medications I still feel sick and gloomy. When I take this product amazingly, I don't feel tired, gloomy, or sick, even though I am sick.
This product is actually made for people having weak immune system like people with cancer, HIV, hepatitis etc. Since, I don't have that I don't take it like regular supplement only when I feel a cold coming on. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth every penny and I calculated in the long run it's actually cheaper than when I was taking NyQuil. Haha. Great product. Highly recommended.
I use to catch a cold at least 4 times a year, now after using it I hardly get sick.
Wish you best of luck and hope this helps.

I agree that there is no way to cure the common cold but there are ways to treat its symptoms. Take 500 to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C every 2-3 hours during the day. Drink lots of water and warm-hot fluids. When the temperature hovers around 90degrees F, viruses are far less comfortable-and less likely to replicate so quickly--when there environment heats up. Drink some hot fluids, and you'll warm your throat, which helps impair viral replication, says Dr. David S. Sobel, M.D.
Many studies have shown that echinacea and ginger have antiviral compounds. Try disinfecting your home often and using good hand washing techniques. This discourages reinfection of the virus.

I wish I knew. I have a dandy cold now. It started last week as allergies. Now I fill Kleenex after Kleenex, wondering where it is all coming from. My cough sometimes feels like it won't stop. I got cough syrup with codeine and that is doing the trick. I also got a Zpack which might help.

There are no cures to the common cold, only treatments. The thing that works best for me is a product called Zincaid. It is available at most drug stores.

There is no way of getting rid of it other than letting it ride out. There are several over the counter products to help treat the virus but not cure it.

Colds respond best to coldFX.
It has been said that colds go away with the best treatment in a week. Without treatment, they go away in 7 days.
