As a muslim female born into mixed parentage in the UK, I had a bad experience of the Muslim religion. My father had the strictest of all brands of Islam from the Pashtun tribes of Peshawar. An imposing 6 footer, he had no sense of humour and rarely smiled, unless at someone elses downfall. He ruled our household like a Victorian Master. He strapped me with his leather belt from the age of 7. He threatened to cut out my tongue if I lied, or chop off my fingers if I stole. Such things are terrifying when you are a child. Although he was sometimes loving and kind, and very generous with money, he was so overpowering. He used to say I was a "mule" and no-one would want me. I hated him. I hated being a girl. I became a tomboy, and used to pray that I would wake up in the morning as a boy. Fortunately, my mum was a strong Englishwoman, and could stand up to him to a degree.
I was 14 yrs old when he decided I should marry my 23 yr old cousin, whom he brought to England from Pakistan. My English mother wasn't impressed and told me of his plans. I just rebelled, I had his strong fierce Pashtun genes, too. By the time I was 17 I'd found an English boyfriend and married him. I never spoke to my father again. When I learned of his death (he went back to Pakistan in his old age) I didn't bat an eyelid - he was gone forever.
Muslim males are totally spoilt by their parents especially their mothers. This makes them self-centred and arrogant. Girls are second class and have their self-esteem and sense of individuality knocked out of them from an early age. I fought back. But I was lucky I had my mum and I was in England.
I believe the basic values of Islam are good and I of course retain those as a guide to my own life. But it's the patriarchal culture of all religions, and especially Islam which is the downfall of religion.
My own children and grandchildren do not have any religion. My personal spiritual beliefs are my own affair.

Muslim religion is Islam, and Islam comes from the root word salam...which means peace....
1. Media maligns Islam
Islam is without doubt the best religion but the media is in the hands of the westerners who are afraid of Islam. The media is continuously broadcasting and printing information against Islam. They either provide misinformation about Islam, misquote Islam or project a point out of proportion, if any.
When any bomb blasts take place anywhere, the first people to be accused without proof are invariably the Muslims. This appears as headlines in the news. Later, when they find that non-Muslims were responsible, it appears as an insignificant news’ item.
If a 50 year old Muslim marries a 15 year old girl after taking her permission, it appears on the front page but when a 50 year old non-Muslim rapes a 6 year old girl, it may appear in the news in the inside pages as ‘Newsbriefs’. Everyday in America on an average 2,713 cases of rape take place but it doesn’t appear in the news, since it has become a way of life for the Americans.
2. Black sheep in every community:
I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, who cheat, etc. but the media projects this as though only Muslims are involved in such activities. There are black sheep in every community. I know Muslims who are alcoholics and who can drink most of the non-Muslims under the table.
3. Muslims best as a whole:
Inspite of all the black sheep in the Muslim community, Muslims taken on the whole, yet form the best community in the world. We are the biggest community of tee-totallers as a whole, i.e. those who don’t imbibe alcohol. Collectively, we are a community which gives the maximum charity in the world. There is not a single person in the world who can even show a candle to the Muslims where modesty is concerned; where sobriety is concerned; where human values and ethics are concerned.
4. Don’t judge a car by its driver:
If you want to judge how good is the latest model of the "Mercedes" car and a person who does not know how to drive sits at the steering wheel and bangs up the car, who will you blame? The car or the driver? But naturally, the driver. To analyze how good the car is, a person should not look at the driver but see the ability and features of the car. How fast is it, what is its average fuel consumption, what are the safety measures, etc. Even if I agree for the sake of argument that the Muslims are bad, we can’t judge Islam by its followers? If you want to judge how good Islam is then judge it according to its authentic sources, i.e. the Glorious Qur’an and the Sahih Hadith.
5. Judge Islam by its best follower i.e. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh):
If you practically want to check how good a car is put an expert driver behind the steering wheel. Similarly the best and the most exemplary follower of Islam by whom you can check how good Islam is, is the last and final messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Besides Muslims, there are several honest and unbiased non-Muslim historians who have acclaimed that prophet Muhammad was the best human being. According to Michael H. Hart who wrote the book, ‘The Hundred Most Influential Men in History’, the topmost position, i.e. the number one position goes to the beloved prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh). There are several such examples of non-Muslims paying great tributes to the prophet, like Thomas Carlyle, La-Martine, etc.

I think its a progression from Christianity - the problem with the Muslim Faith (like all other old religions) is that the institutions are becoming progressively corrupt and are struggling to maintain unity of purpose (theyre loosing the plot).
This is a natural process that u can see eveywhere in nature - fortunately there is always a new religion on the rise, to unite the faithful

Islam teaches reliable value in respecting innocence and virginity, so abstinence before marriage is envisioned. oftentimes, I dont imagine homosexuality is widely used because it truly is considered as unnatural. some straightforward beliefs are to ascertain the Quran, surely eat halal, in no way eat or contact beef, gown and behave modestly, appreciate kin and elders, carry out hajj, make an attempt to wish 5 circumstances an afternoon dealing with Mecca (its a way Muslims use to decelerate even as issues are starting to be too demanding in existence and take time to shop in ideas and pray to God) Fasting throughout the time of Ramadan. Going to a Masjid is an excellent adventure. Its beautiful interior and out. The imam's voices are like songs even as they recite verses from the Quran.

i THINK THAT IT IS EQUALLY GOOD OR EVEN BETTER THAN ANY OTHER RELIGION .
As a person who respects all the religions I would like to praise its emphasis on the oneness of GOD ,its teachings ,beliefs etc but I doubt the attitude of its followers .
The followers seem to neither respect GOD nor follow the teachings of PROPHET MOHAMMED .They seem to ignore the holy verses of the Qur'an .
Almost all the religions in this world teach the importance of universal love and ISLAM is not an exception but its followers seem to ruin the name of this precious religion and its culture which had been praised all over the world .
Today I am sad to say that most of the mishaps in this world are caused due to the so called FAKE-muslims .

I don't know, (sorry I didn't watch that tv thing) I always used to think you know, muslims were muslims, just like anyone else but recently I've been getting more weary of them... I don't get them, there is one God, we all know that and the bible and the koran are pretty similar, so why do so many of them want to kill us? However, all the muslims I have met are lovely... it's just the ones on the old telly box that I'm frightened of.

I am a people, a lot of other here don't believe that I actually think but I do have a thought from time to time. I see Islam as a dangerous cult. It has all the marking of a cult, strong central control, and extra Biblical revelation. I se Islam as being very suppressive of all it's believers especially the women. But even the men are required to pray 5 times a day. Is that bad, No, but the idea that it is REQUIRED is bad. Christian being free of the Law are free to love God as a child love their father. Nothing is forced, isn't that better than religiosity? Jim

It is just like all the other religions.
A self-sustaining form of mass brainwashing. That attacks young peoples minds before they have had a chance to develop there own natural creativity. They are then condemned to a life of confusion and self loathing.
Aren’t religions great.

I know alot of people will have a bad perception on the Muslim religion only bcoz what they have heard and if they have done their research they would know that Islam is peaceful and clean. I'm non religious myself but i respect all religion, and believe you shouldn't judge a whole society of Muslims just bcoz of a handful, most Muslims are very peaceful and not extreme...

I think it's being used to commit travesties but the ones who are4 doing this are miss interpreting the Scriptures (particularly about the treatment and rights of women) It shears it's roots with Christianity and of course Judaism and so shares there strenghts and hypocrisies
