Why do people's own consciences condemn them?

Question

(You can tell that their consciences are disturbed by their recoiling at some pointed questions)
...And yet at other times their consciences seem to be non-existant?
1 Timothy 4 : 1,2 says; " However, the inspired utterance says definately that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron..."
Is this that time? Are the teachings of demons, i. e. homosexuality,
evolution, pedophilia, etc., the reason for their consciences being seared?
I submit to you that NO ONE who does such things - OR - who thinks that such things are alright to do, CANNOT POSSIBLY have a good conscience!

Hello!! :o) An interesting question. I believe that the Bible was given to us [among other reasons] to be our 'guide' and 'reference' book. It is always dangerous to rely solely on our own conscience, are own ideas of what's 'right and wrong'. We should always confirm any 'new' thought, feeling or action with the Bible and SEE for ourselves IF it is something approved of by God. Man [even those who once had faith in God] will turn away from God because they listened to others and relied on their own ability to discern and were [as a result] often mislead. [And WILL be mislead - as the book of Timothy warns] "What was once right will seem wrong - and what was once wrong will seem right." [So the Bible tells us] Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

A theological approach to the question is that a conscience is the voice of God. When we do something "sinful", this voice of God within us makes us aware of it, and makes us feel "bad" so we can turn away from evil and do good.

From a scientific angle, some scienitsts say that a conscience is genetically inbred in most normal functioning human beings as a way to ensure order in human societies.

Or maybe while a mind is developing, our conscience is programmed according to our own distinct societal customs. This would explain why in some primitive tribes, cannibalism exists (yuck) again to ensure cohesion in a social group.

What is a more destructive force that make people forget about God and focus on their own selfish lives? Learning about a theory, knowing gays exist, and that you need to be aware of pedophiles? No, it's stuff that tears families apart like divorce, teenage pregnancy, and extra marital affairs. The fall of great civilizations such as the Roman Empire was due to the degradation of the family unit.

The teaching of demons is not focused on making people wonder about the existence of God, but making people so caught up in their lives that they forget God.

Because our consciousness is polarised between good and evil, the good being in the same time felt superior to the evil. Such a polaritity implies that I cannot act without beeing the juge of my own actions. It follows necessarily that if I am aware of having committed something evil, that awareness encompass an implicit or explicit condamnation.

Our conscience helps us to make the right decision from the wrong ones. Because we have free will and are stubborn at times we shut down that part and choose to live our lives.

We are not to judge! Whenever God is ready He will call all those who have gone astray because there will a time that everyone will need Him. Just keep praying for them.
